Having a strong core appears to be very vogue nowadays – everyone seems to be talking about it and all of a sudden the message seems to be everywhere. I mean on the internet at least especially in the fitness and health arena. Yoga, pilates and other fitness sites are now very often advocating the importance of a strong middle section – awareness of the core has surged recently!
On a physical level a strong core assists the shoulder girdle and therefore affects the arms. It also helps the hips and therefore works on the legs too. It strengthens the whole body which is really wonderful. Nicely toned abs are also aesthetically pleasing!
Barefoot Bodeez, however is all about looking at the Bigger Picture and what really affects your body the most and how to deal with that. In my humble opinion, I believe our thoughts and feelings are the culprits for all bodily problems – in other words it all starts from “within”. This is great to know actually because it is a lot easier to work on that than try and control anything outside of you. That is just way too hard! Future blog posts will explain a lot more about this.
The stomach area, also known as the solar plexus is the region mostly affected by your feelings and what you “see”. The reason for this is simple – there is a link between your eyesight and your solar plexus. For example if you witness an accident, usually the first place that will be affected is your stomach, and you may feel “sick”. I remember many moons ago seeing my recently ex-boyfriend with his new girlfriend! Aargh!! You know what I mean! Your eyes see something that is not so great, and hey presto the stomach churns. This proves the link, and the fact that your stomach has a mass of ganglionic nerves is why this area can be so affected. Your feelings stem from here.
So what I am trying to say is that a strong core is far more than a physical attribute. For me, the crux of it all is that it helps you be less affected by what you may “see” and therefore keeps you stronger and more centred emotionally. The body definitely directly benefits from this.
Just in case you are one of those fast working people who scroll straight down to the summary:
The main benefits to a strong core are:
- Strengthens the whole of your physical body – shoulders, arms, hips, legs, spine, stomach
- Ensures your internal organs function properly
- Physical exercise and yoga will be so much easier and more enjoyable
- Helps to keep you emotionally stable
- You feel more “in control” of your life
- Keeps away those so called negative emotions from entering into your body
- Excess flab around the area will have to go
- Aesthetically pleasing – i.e. it looks great!
