Beverley here again!
I thought I’d let you know why I set up Barefoot Bodeez – if you’re interested of course! I had wanted to do something like this for ages and this year it seemed like a good idea to just START!
I started practicing yoga from the tender age of 16 at home in my bedroom. Even though I was originally self taught and at that time my knowledge of yoga was only from books, I found that my day just seemed to “flow” better after my morning yoga session. That got me hooked and I could never understand why everyone didn’t do yoga! I was constantly telling my friends that it really is the perfect exercise as it works on many levels – not just the physical – (that is the added bonus!) The subject of yoga is so vast that I could write reams about it and now I can do that in bite size pieces on my Blog Page!
In 1997 I finally went the USA to qualify as a Bikram Yoga Teacher and brought it back to Jersey in 1998. It went off! I absolutely loved that time – the camaraderie and fun that my small studio and amazing students generated was incredible!
As the years went on, so did my journey and I started to look more deeply into consciousness and awareness, and I realised contrary to what I was brought up to believe, life didn’t have to be hard and the universe was a friendly place. And life was meant to be fun – what a concept! That took a bit of convincing I can tell you.
I am an all-or-nothing girl so needless to say, I threw myself into trying to understand this infinite subject as much as I could, and in particular its effect on our life and of course, the body. I experimented constantly and put myself and my body through some amazing tests along the way to try and “prove” what I was learning or rather “realising”. I didn’t want to leave a stone unturned – as someone said to me – I was like a dog with a bone! I even stopped doing yoga to concentrate on energy and consciousness “work” and I witnessed and had some amazing experiences.
I then applied what I was learning to my yoga practice and an incredible thing happened. My Bikram Yoga practice that I had previously found hard (but loved anyway) was all of a sudden, easy and really enjoyable. Now, instead of hanging in there waiting for a posture to be over, I could be totally in the moment and with a smile on my face – I was gobsmacked at the shift particularly as now I was much older so that proved that the age thing is a total myth! I was even more flexible and stronger too!
I wanted somehow to bring that experience to others through my yoga teaching or workshops. I didn’t want to see people struggling with their bodies, almost fighting the postures – I knew there was another way – but I didn’t know how to explain it in words. There are no words really – it can only be experienced for oneself!
I puzzled on this for a long time and it seemed that I was finally directed to India and there I recently qualified in a therapeutic style of yoga and for the most part what I learnt seemed to fit with my “new” consciousness. As my teacher confirmed, the body will respond more to love than judgment or force – which was exactly what I had been realising for myself and bringing into my own practice. I still practice Bikram Yoga in this way and I can definitely say that it works with whatever type of yoga you prefer!
Somehow this website is a result from all of that!
I hope you enjoy and get some benefit from it!
