Barefoot Bodeez classes are changing! They are yoga / body classes with quite a bit more.
As a bit of background, I first started practicing yoga at age 16. I was originally self taught from books and even though in hind sight I didn’t really know what I was doing I felt that my days seemed to flow better. I told all my friends that I thought yoga topped any other type of physical exercise and I still believe that. I practiced every single morning for many years until finally qualifying as a teacher, firstly with Bikram Yoga in 1997 and more recently in India with a multi-style practice.
In the years between those trainings however, I travelled extensively around the world and opened up to so much more. It seemed that wherever I went, and through the people I met, the next piece of the jigsaw puzzle was placed before me. I am now putting the best of this together and sharing some of that information in my Barefoot Bodeez classes. Although the movements are based on regular yoga postures mainly in a Vinyasa format I now include more of the “bigger picture”. My own practice is always done from the “bigger picture” and this is what totally changed my experience with Bikram Yoga into a feeling of grace and dare I say it – much more blissful! The information that I share can be used in any hatha yoga, in sport, in fact with anything!
We are awakening now and everything is changing. You only have to look the world and see evidence of the upheaval! If I just taught from the physical only I would be short changing you. There is so much more and I continually learn more every single class I teach or practice and I would like to share at least some of that in my classes.
I have wanted to do this type of “hybrid” class for many years as it seemed more and more that yoga was being used solely as a physical exercise (which in many ways is fantastic as I think its the best ) but if you only practice from physical knowledge it’s as if you are firing on only one cylinder instead of all you have been given! I believe you can transform your body with yoga no matter how old you are but if practicing only from physical awareness the change will be much slower and a much harder route. There is an easier way!
So Barefoot Bodeez classes are a little different and I am sure they will continually evolve. A lot of what I share is what I learnt when training but a lot is what I learnt outside of yoga classes – it’s a mixture of both. The idea being is that you will understand more of the truth of what affects your body / life and how you can change it more easily if you desire to.
This is my favourite subject of all time – my whole life since the age of 16 has been about exploring more and not taking anyone’s word for it but applying what I have learnt and experimenting with my own body which I still do. The classes are lighthearted and fun with a non judgmental atmosphere. I may also do a series of workshops / talks plus practice. I am willing to do what people would like. When I used to teach Bikram Yoga at the Fort I did workshop/ talks after class every couple of weeks and they were very popular. Most attendees didn’t come from my actual physical classes – they were friends of friends – everyone is welcome. Since those times I have experienced a whole lot more and actually it has all become much simpler. That is what I would like to pass on now.
Please be open to looking at your body and even your yoga practice in a whole different way. My group classes will very shortly be on the beach at St Brelade’s and exact times will be according to tides and weather. I will keep you informed on Barefoot Bodeez Facebook page and this website.
